1st Annual Lunar New Year Celebration

Jínián jíxiáng (good luck for this Rooster year)! Good luck filled the ballroom of the Bellevue Westin for our very first Lunar New Year Celebration. No black tie or ball gowns for this fundraiser, as guests partied away the evening in Seahawks, Sounders, Mariners, Huskies, and even LA Lakers jerseys. The casual and fun sports theme continued through the centerpieces, food, auction items, and very special guests.

VIP level guests hobnobbed with sports legends Kazuhiro Sasaki (Mariners, 2000-2003), Downtown Fred Brown (Supersonics, 1977-1984), and Edwin Bailey (Seahawks, 1981-1991) in a pre-event reception. A traditional lion dance kicked off the formal program, and Gus Williams (Supersonics, 1977-1984) joined the fun. These gracious sports idols happily gave autographs and posed for photos.

Super-silent and live auctions dazzled and amazed the audience, especially when sports legends like took to the stage. Live auction offerings included beautiful artowrk, luxury vacations, exquisite dining opportunities, sports collectibles, and up-close-and-personal sports adventures. A private dinner with Iron Chef Masahiro Morimoto blew away the audience. Fred and Gus autographed a basketball right on stage for lucky winner Wendy Zheng. A Japan Odyssey for Two package (Delta One Business Class tickets, two hotel stays, and two Japan Rail passes), took top honors with a staggering $10,000 top bid.

Bid cards waved proudly for the Fund-A-Need segment to raise funds for Keiro Rehabilitation Services. Kaz signed baseballs to entice even more bidders.

For those guests who wanted more fun, dancing followed the event. People grooved to old favorites, and Fred Brown boogied with friends old and new on the dance floor, too!

Many thanks to all who made this event a hit!

To our auctioneer, David Silverman, who enlivened the bidding and challenged guests to raise even more for Keiro Northwest. And appreciation and thanks to our emcees, Mimi Gan and Harold Taniguchi, who brought both professionalism and community warmth to our events.

To our volunteer crew, who greeted, assisted, set up, broke down, modeled, and added their helping hands and giving hearts to make the event a success.

Many thanks to our sponsors!

Special thanks to Delta Airlines, the exclusive airline sponsor of the Lunar New Year Celebration. From donating live auction items to flying in pitcher Kazuhiro Sasaki, their generosity was overwhelming, and we deeply value their partnership.
